Halloween Horror Movie Night Universal Monsters Recommendations
A Universal Monsters movie marathon ought to be more than just a once a year event! These are some of the movies that began it all and have been cited as movies that inspired a number of the fantastic horror writers and directors of today and working in the movie industry. The franchise really started with a silent era in the 1920's however the Golden Age of the 30's and 40's is the most popular and best movies are. Here are my favorites: go to this website
A classic that's still cited today as one of the best horror films of all time. Originally published in 1931 and based on the novel by Mary Shelly it stars Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's Monster from the role that launched his career and made him an icon of terror. This is a must see for any horror fan and while you are at it check out"Mary Shelly's Frankenstein" starring Robert DeNiro as The Monster in addition to Bride of Frankenstein.
The Wolf Man is a gorgeous film that has remained timeless. This film, the next to last of the first Universal Monster movies starring the great Lon Chaney, has inspired nearly every werewolf themed horror movie such as modern day classics such as An American Werewolf in London and The Howling.
It should also be said that The Wolf Man was the very successful movie released in the 1940's under the Universal Monsters moniker. That decade was dominated by spin-offs of formerly prosperous monster films in the 20's and 30's with a few original thoughts thrown in. the invisible man full movie 2020
Launched in 1954 this was the last of the first Universal Monster movies that came out thirteen years following The Wolf Man. This was also the only new monster published throughout the 1950's"Dragon Revival" period. The others were"Creature" sequels an"Abbot and Costello Meet (insert monster here)" movie. This is not actually a horror movie but more of a Science Fiction movie and even a love story. However it is one of the most brilliant movies ever made.
